Description: The Nassau County Museum of Art proudly presents: Urban Art Evolution on March 23 through July 7, 2024. Guest curated by art collector and gallerist Christopher Pusey, this comprehensive exhibition features a diverse range of compositions from the 1980’s through the present by creators who were based in the rough and tumble downtown area of New York City known as Loisaida/LES (Lower East Side/East Village) and close surrounding neighborhoods. Artists pushed the boundaries of what was considered “art” with a primary focus on street/graffiti art. The exhibition’s scope, however, offers an even broader view from other creative residents, who worked inside their studios but still contributed to the rich fabric of the downtown art scene from different vantage points and aesthetics. Works include sculpture, paintings, photography, music, and ephemera from many of the most noted and influential artists of this pivotal time in art history.

Twee dagen lang zullen zowel oude bekenden als nieuwe graffiti artiesten de Berenkuil verrijken met verschillende stijlen tijdens hét graffiti festival van de Benelux!
We zijn 15 jaar geleden gestart met het festival vanuit passie en liefde voor de scene en dat heeft ons ver gebracht. In de afgelopen jaren hebben we grenzen verlegd, maar we lopen ook tegen de grenzen van het festival aan waardoor we niet kunnen blijven vernieuwen en verbeteren. Door de enorme hoeveelheid liefde en passie die we na elke editie terug vanuit de artiesten hebben we het zo lang vol kunnen houden en daar zijn we ontzettend dankbaar voor! Laten we het samen afsluiten met en knaller; we hopen jullie allemaal nog één keer terug te zien in de Berenkuil voor Step in the Arena!

We are proud to announce that the 15th edition of Step in the Arena will be our last one! On June 15th and 16th, we’ll welcome visitors to the Berenkuil in Eindhoven once last time while it’s turned into the graffiti paradise of the Benelux. During the two days, (inter)national graffiti artists will cover the Berenkuil in different styles of graffiti.
We started this festival 15 years ago with passion and love for the scene and that has brought us very far. The goal for this festival has always been to push boundaries, to innovate and improve, but this is something we no longer feel like is possible. Again and again, we’ve received the love and passion of the artists, which we are very grateful for and is one of many reasons we’ve been able to keep going for so long. We want to end this journey with a bang, so hopefully, we’ll see you at the Berenkuil for Step in the Arena one last time!Type: Festival

バリー・マッギー (BARRY MCGEE)はサンフランシスコを拠点として活動する現代アーティストであり、TwistやLydia、Fongの名前でもその活動を知られてきました。自身が生まれ育ったサンフランシスコの風景やストリートアートの文化を取り入れ、壁画、インスタレーション、彫刻、ドローイング、写真など多様な技法でカラフルに独自の世界観を表現するのが特徴です。
マッギーは自身の作品を通じて社会階層や消費文化など社会の課題を表現し、これまでにヴェネチアビエンナーレ、プラダ財団、ボストン現代美術館、バークレー美術館、ワタリウム、あいちトリエンナーレなど、数多くの美術館、展覧会で観客にメッセージを伝えてきました。
今回の展示タイトルである「OLDE IFFY」。
OLDEはOLDの古風な書き方であり、昔から愛され続けているもの、長く使われているものを大切に考えるマッギーのスタイルが現れています。
IFFYには、何者でもない（存在）である、という意味合いがあります。自分は歳だけとって、まだ何者でもないよ、そんな謙虚さが感じられます。
本展では新作を含め、ペインティングを中心に展示・販売を行うとともに、今回のために製作された特別な映像のインスタレーションも見ることができます。マッギー本人が来日し手掛けた空間を体感いただける貴重な機会となっておりますので、是非ご来場ください。

Between graffiti video, documentary and mockumentary, Art Inconsequence - Advanced Vandalism is certainly one of the first scene documents to present deviant concepts in illegal graffiti in series. The serial works themselves are also among the first of their kind in historical terms, certainly in the consistency shown. The film and the book of the same name explored and anticipated much of what can still be called avant-garde today, but which itself now represents a small new tradition of more experimental graffiti.
Film undoubtedly has a firm place in the foundation of this subgenre. One or two of the artists shown have taken the liberty of weaving in a lot of little ironic jokes and references. The deeper the viewer gets involved in certain contexts, of which the conventional graffiti scene is just one, the more these become concentrated. The director Robert Kaltenhäuser will once again be with us and will be available for a talk.

Auch gehören die seriellen Werke selbst darin historisch wohl mit zu den ersten ihrer Art, sicherlich in der gezeigten Konsequenz. Der Film und das gleichnamige Buch hat vieles ausgelotet und vorweggenommen, was heute zwar noch immer avantgardistisch genannt werden kann, aber inzwischen selbst eine kleine neue Tradition von experimentellerem Graffiti darstellt.
Im Fundament dieses Subgenres hat der Film unzweifelhaft seinen festen Platz. Der ein oder andere gezeigte Künstler haben sich erlaubt, eine Menge kleiner ironischer Spässe und Hinweise einzuflechten. Diese verdichten sich umso mehr, je tiefer der Zuschauer in bestimmte Zusammenhänge verstrickt ist, von denen die herkömmliche Graffitiszene nur einer ist.
